One of my favourite things to do while travelling is come across things you wouldn't see anywhere else. This is hardly unique, however, upon seeing a "durian prohibited" sign while on a train in Singapore, I knew that the hilarity of the prohibited had a lot more to offer than I had ever considered before

Just another 2 cm to the left
Another from Singapore though truly, I'd actually like it if things like this were around more frequently. Two main things tickled me with this, one is the very convenient placement of the man behind the prohibited bar, just so you don't see anything too risqué. The other is the representation of what he's evacuating is bladder onto - I know it's supposed to be a wall but 2D doesn't always work so well, so it looks more like a pole - that needs a bit more skill in the aiming department :)

This image is not mine (I found it on getup.com.au) and I only put it up here because of the power a circle with a line can possess as well as the silliness that I've occasionally pointed out. I by no means wish to trivialise the situation in Libya and hope that the violence stops and that a peaceful, democratic solution can reached. I can only imagine how horrific it is to be in one of the major cities. Be safe, be well.

A picture is worth 1000 words
One of the things that is supposed to be so helpful about prohibited signs is that they convey to you, without the need of language, what you can or can not do. As a tragic mono-linguist travelling in China, I wasn't sure what this stopped me doing for 50m. I hope I didn't do whatever it said. Does anyone know what it means?

They love littering
This one near Homer, Alaska, wasn't so much amusing because of what it says more because of how it was loved by the locals. I've been told that Alaskans like to shoot things they don't agree with (evidenced by any speed limit sign marked slower than 40mph). I'm not sure whether they really wanted to litter in this spot and shot out of frustration or just hated being told what to do.
How it all began
One day back in 2006 I found myself on a train in Singapore and saw the following. I was in love
What I loved the most was that there was no fine for having the durians - given how they smell though I gather having one is punishment enough. That and becoming a social pariah / suffering from your fellow passenger's glares. I wish I had had more time in Singapore, they enjoy banning things and go to a lot of effort to let you know - I don't think I've been in any country that includes so much detail (one image coming up later has perspective). They're not for playing with
One my lovely friend Petroika took while on holidays while in the Everglades, Florida. Petroika also adds that it may be interpreted that moonwalking around alligators is also not advisable, I concur with this interpretation

Don't stick'em up!
The beginning will be one of my favourites. This was taken outside a Bonus supermarket in Reykjavik, Iceland. Because no one would have guessed that holding up stores was a little on the naughty side. Extra points are awarded for detail such as the bandana and the small, easily concealed weapon
